Food insecurity like we’ve never seen
Food shelves across Minnesota and the country are fighting a truly unprecedented level of need in our communities. Pandemic-era supports continue to expire, and inflation and rising food costs are putting more and more strain on families. More than a quarter of Minnesotans accessing food shelves report that they regularly have to choose between buying groceries or paying for other essentials like utilities, gas, or rent. Even with recent additional state allocated funds, the need continues to outweigh the resources.

CAC serves approximately 14,000 individuals each year with food and other basic needs. This represents 30% of the total population of Northfield and Faribault combined! Our food shelf visits are consistently up by 50% since this time last year, when we were already experiencing record numbers of people. We’re providing more food than at any other time in CAC’s history — more than 8,000 pounds per day.

Open Your Heart — maximize your impact
The Open Your Heart Summer Challenge provides CAC food shelves with a proportional matched grant by Hunger Solutions based on funds secured during July. Additionally, we have a generous anonymous donor who will match the first $5,000 donated, dollar for dollar.
