The community is invited to come to Bridge Square on November 18 beginning at 7:00 pm to learn about homelessness. Executive Director, Jim Blaha, will reflect on a homeless person’s plight in rural Minnesota and share facts about the problem in Rice County. Donations of cash and personal hygiene supplies will be collected to support the housing programs of the Community Action Center.
Between July 2009 and June 2010, the Community Action Center helped 45 households that were homeless. These households included fifty-seven adults and thirty-six children. While in our emergency shelter, families receive assistance from a social worker to find stable housing.
Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week is a national action to promote education about hunger and homelessness. The Community Action Center of Northfield is a non-profit organization providing food, shelter, clothing, and emergency support to our neighbors in need. All are welcome to join us on November 18.
