Every day the people of the Northfield area come together to support our neighbors in need. The Community Action Center is able to help more than 3,500 of our neighbors each year with the support of those who volunteer and donate. While we are fortunate to receive the support of many people, the needs of our community are greater than ever. The current economic crisis has created hardships, forcing many families having to make difficult choices about how to spend their money. We firmly believe, however, that a family should never have to go without life’s basic necessities — food, clothing and shelter. The staff of the CAC appreciate the many ways that nearly 2,000 volunteers offer support to the people we serve.

Thanks to all CAC volunteers!

Volunteer with Our Programs

Whether volunteering in our Food Shelf, helping prepare or serve a meal for Thursday’s Table, helping a family shop for gifts during Christmas Sharing or organizing clothes at the Clothes Closet, we are grateful for the gift of your time.

Featured Volunteer Program:

While we’re committed to matching your passions with a program, we invite you to consider an area of greatest need: Adopt-A-Family:   If you would like to make the holidays special by providing Christmas gifts to one of the families we serve, please call Sharon Vangsness at 507.664.3550.

Christmas Sharing:   We are planning for our annual Christmas Sharing event.  Thousands of gifts are needed each year (click here for information on the types of gifts needed). If you would like to volunteer to help us to set-up, wrap gifts or assist clients,  please call us between November 15  and December 1 at 507.664.3550.

Clothes Closet:   The Clothes Closet needs volunteers to sort, tag, and hang clothes.  If you would like to volunteer in for a 2-3 hour shift, please call Jane Greenwood at 507.645.1389.

Emergency Shelter:   On-call volunteers are needed to help clean our emergency shelter.  Please call Sybil Betsinger at 507.664.3562 to volunteer.

Food Shelf:   The Food Shelf needs volunteers to distribute food to clients and stock shelves.  If you would like to work a 2-3 hour shift in the Food Shelf, please call the Food Shelf at 507.664.3585.

Thursday’s Table:  Currently there are no volunteer opportunities available.  Please call Ivy Ainsworth  at 507.664.3569 if you need additional information.
