Every day the people of the Northfield area come together to support our neighbors in need. The Community Action Center is able to help more than 3,500 of our neighbors each year with the support of those who volunteer and donate. While we are fortunate to receive the support of many people, the needs of our community are greater than ever. We believe that a family should never have to go without life’s basic necessities — food, clothing and shelter. The staff of the CAC appreciate the many ways that nearly 2,000 volunteers offer support to the people we serve.
Volunteer with Our Programs
Whether volunteering in our Food Shelf, helping prepare or serve a meal for Thursday’s Table, helping a family shop for gifts during Christmas Sharing or organizing clothes at the Clothes Closet, we are grateful for the gift of your time.
While we’re committed to matching your passions with a program, we invite you to consider the following:
Adopt-A-Family: If you would like to make the holidays special by providing Christmas gifts to one of the families we serve, please call Sharon Vangsness at 507.664.3550. If you are interested in this opportunity, please contact us any time of the year!
Christmas Sharing: Thousands of gifts are needed each year (click here for information on the types of gifts needed). If you would like to volunteer to help us to set-up, wrap gifts or assist clients, please call us between November 15 and December 1 at 507.664.3550.
Clothes Closet: The Clothes Closet needs volunteers to sort, tag, and hang clothes. If you would like to volunteer in for a 2-3 hour shift, please call Kaara Maki at 507.645.1389.
Food Shelf: The Food Shelf needs volunteers to distribute food to clients and stock shelves. If you would like to work a 2-3 hour shift in the Food Shelf, please call the Food Shelf at 507.664.3585.
Thursday’s Table: Currently there are no volunteer opportunities available. Please call Ivy Ainsworth at 507.664.3569 if you need additional information.
Emergency Shelter: We always need personal care items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo, and combs for people in our emergency shelter. If you would like to organize a personal care item drive, please contact Sybil Betsinger at 507.664-3562.
