You can Donate While Shopping

AmazonSmile is a program that lets you donate to the Community Action Center as you shop!  If you shop on smile.amazon.com rather than amazon.com, the Amazon Smile Foundation will donate .5% of your purchase directly to the Community Action Center.  For a shopper, prices and products are identical to Amazon.com.  For questions, see http://smile.amazon.com for more information, or call us at 507-664-3550.

Section 8 Waiting List Opens September 5

Rice County Section 8 waiting list will be opening at 8:00 a.m. on Friday, September 5, 2014.  Applications will only be accepted from people who qualify for the Rice County residency preference, meaning people who either live or work in Rice County.  Verification of residency will be required at the time of application.  Acceptable proof includes:

  • Current lease, and/or bill that is less than 30 days old (phone, credit card, or utility bill)
  • Paystub or offer letter from a company located in Rice County that is less than 30 days old

Applications will be available in the HRA office in Faribault or on the HRA website at http://www.co.rice.mn.us/departments/housing.

The Section 8  waiting list is rarely open and is likely to close again within days.  If you want to be on the Section 8 waiting list, it is critical to get your completed application in as quickly as possible.

Client Profile: Mary

September 25, 2014

Mary hadn’t been able to take the CAC’s Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) class in the past due to work conflicts, but when she found herself unemployed a couple of months ago, she decided to take advantage of the opportunity. To boost her confidence and complement her new skill set, the CAC staff suggested she enroll in the new Northfield WORKS program. more »
